From September 2026 I will be joining GJE as a Trainee Patent Attorney, bringing a background in experimental physics to intellectual property law. I am drawn to the challenge of translating between scientific and legal thinking, and to the role that intellectual property plays in driving the innovation that underpins productivity and economic growth.
I recently finished my PhD at the University of Ottawa, where I spent five years in experimental optics and quantum measurement — building optical systems, automating with Python, and developing new theoretical approaches to measuring light. I currently consult with Koralli, building data analytics dashboards for project management at a tier-1 American bank, and serve as Executive Director of Support Our Science, advocating for the next generation of Canadian researchers.
When I’m not working, I try to keep up a book-a-week habit — a mix of sci-fi, philosophy, and whatever else catches my eye. I enjoy running — I’ve run a half-marathon each of the last two years and am always looking for the next one — and like to travel with a camera; recent trips have taken me through the Canadian Maritimes, Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam.
